Mindfulness Meditation help to change our mind but also our brain – There are more research from neuroscientist that suggest that.
Mindfulness meditation have become increasingly popular, but little is known about neural mechanisms associated with this practice. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), one of the most widely used mindfulness training programs, has been reported to produce positive effects on psychological well-being and to improve symptoms of a number of conditions. There have been studies to investigate what is happening to the concentration of gray matter linked to the MBSR program.
Scientist used MRI to 16 healthy person which little knowledge in meditation prior taking this program. The results were compared with another group of 17 individuals, to find out what happened to any changes in gray matter. The analyses confirmed increased concentration in gray matter within the left hippocampus. Also, bigger part of the brain was reacting positively to the meditation program compared with the other group.
The outcome suggests that participating in Mindfulness mediation helps to improve memory, emotion regulation, learning and self-processing. Longer the meditation, more gray matter density will form.
Other studies using on long-term meditation suggests that it is linked with altered resting electroencephalogram patterns, suggesting changes in the brain activity. Once more, MRI were used to assess cortical thickness to a number of participants with greater experience in meditation. The results were incredible. Brain regions associated with attention, sensory processing and interoception were thicker than other groups.
The data provided evidence that mediation helps changes in the brain structure.
