Anne-Marie Bankes - Psychotherapist
Anne-Marie is a graduate of the University of Toronto where she earned her Master of Social Work degree, after completing a Bachelor of Social Work through Ryerson University.
As a Registered Social Worker with over 10 years of experience, Anne-Marie has a complex understanding of the psychological and social factors that influence the mental health and wellness of individuals, children, adolescents, couples, and families. She has a strong passion to help promote secure, resilient individuals, as well as successful relationships between and within families. Anne-Marie uses a calm, welcoming approach, championing the journey and successes of those she’s working with.
Through the use of an anti-oppressive, eclectic style, Anne-Marie provides services using techniques from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), etc.
Additionally, Anne-Marie has completed various postgraduate courses focusing on anxiety, depression, trauma (PTSD), emotional dysregulation, grief, co-morbidity, gender and sexuality, relationship patterns, parenting skills training, and is one of a limited number of Social Workers in Ontario qualified to provide Canine Assisted Intervention to individuals who wish to benefit from that service.
Anne-Marie enjoys spending time outdoors with her partner and their pup, as well as relaxing at home with their two cats. She also enjoys mountain biking, hiking, camping, and reading.
