As technology has advanced, the field of medicine and health has also advanced to a whole new level. There are diseases that were unheard of even a decade ago. With these diseases and health issues, medical practitioners and health experts come up with solutions in the form of medicines and treatments.

There are some diseases that require a dose of medicine after the checkup while some are that complicated, detecting these is a daunting task even after the checkup. There are different procedures to detect certain health issues or diseases in a human’s body. One such treatment is Iridology. You might not have heard about this before, so, here is a complete guide to what is iridology and how it originated?

What is Iridology?

It is said that the iris of the eye is just like the computer tracking system. It is claimed that any problem in the system of the human body can be detected through the meticulous examination of the iris.

Also known as “iridodiagnosis” or “iridiagnosis”. It is claimed that the color, pattern and some other characteristic of a person’s iris can reveal about their systematic health. The iridologists after meticulous observation of the iris of the person match their observation to iris charts that they have divided into different parts that display different body parts. They believe that eyes are the part of a human body that can reveal a lot about their health and overall, they depict a person’s state of health.

How and who proposed this idea?

The concept of iridology has many contradictory as well. This idea was recorded by medical experts in the form of writings and work on iris markings in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The concept dates to 1665 when the initial description of iridological principles like homo-laterality was given in a famous work that was reprinted in 1670 and 1691 by Philippus Meyeus.

One of the earliest personalities to study and notice the concept was a Hungarian Doctor, Dr. Ignatz von Peczley. When he was still a child, he unintentionally broke a leg of an owl. With that, he noticed the appearance of a black mark in the owl’s eye. It changed its shade over time. He then started studying in medical college in Vienna. He studied the iris of the patients before and after surgery. He recorded, correlated and then published his research work and made his iris chart in 1880.

Procedure and Equipment

The procedure or the treatment is carried out by “Iridologists”. With the help of the iris charts we can distinguish between a healthy system and organs of the body to those who are not healthy. This way we can tell about the inflamed, overactive and distressed body organs. This method can predict future health problems and help Iridologists know the past health issues as well.

There are multiple pieces of equipment used in the process. However, the best equipment is the advanced cameras which are used to examine a person’s iris. We examine the tissue change in features like pigment patterns. Then the results are downloaded on a specific program which provides a very detailed report.

What diagnosis does it provide?

We can provide an in-depth examination of the iris and reveal the change in the tissues of the body organs. Bernard Jensen, explained it “The nerve fibers present in the iris react to ups and downs in the tissues of the body by revealing a reflex physiology, which matches up to specific tissue variations and locations.” It indicates that any change in the body would appear in the iris.

Iridology reveals anger issues as well. This can damage the liver and affect the spleen. It is the potent part of our immune system and claims that unshared grief/feelings may have a deterring effect on the respiratory system/ lungs of the person. Furthermore, iridology focuses on the digestive system. It reveals about the condition, shape, and contents or the large intestine. In addition to that, iridology gives an idea about the production or lack the enzymes that are produced by the foods, which a person consumes.

What will Iridology not show?

Iridology will not show or name a specific disease but provides information about the body tissues which indicate tendencies toward conditions of “dis-ease”, often before symptoms appear. Iridology will not reveal surgery performed under anesthesia as nerve impulses are discontinued. Iridology cannot locate gallstones or germ life but will indicate the presence of inflammation and toxic conditions which are a refuge for their development. It will not show pregnancy, as that is a normal function of the female body.

If a person has a headache or brain fogginess, it can indicate congestion in the transverse colon. The iris examination also reveals the inherent health issues and iridologists can direct preventive measure to come over the problems.

Heart, Reproductive system, structural or skeleton, lymph glands and almost everybody parts including the emotional state of the person can be observed through Iridology. It is claimed that it is not just the examination of the physical state of the person but of the emotional and spiritual state as well.

Use of Iridology in conventional medicine

Iridology is being practiced widely over the globe but at the same time, it is contradicted as well. It is in that position that it will bridge the conventional and complementary medicine. The iridologists may suggest to further checkups and various tests that are necessary to detect the ongoing problem in the human body. Certain tests like CT scans and MRI are imperative in conventional medicine.

Iridology has unlimited benefits. It can easily detect inherent health issues and weakness that people don’t get to know in the initial stages and they spend money on the treatment of chronic diseases. Iridology is a quick and painless method to detect and assess medical conditions that are highly in demand in both conventional and contemporary medicine.
