What to Do in Case Of An Injury?

Depending on the severity of the injury, you may want to book an appointment with your family doctor. He or She will determine the best course of action. Typically, your primary care practitioner will request imaging or will refer you directly for Physiotherapy.

Generally speaking, the sooner you begin treatment, the faster the recovery. Treatment will progress from acute symptom management to active therapy and progressively reduce from higher frequency in-clinic treatments to independent management and eventual recovery.

Summary

In order to free yourself from any pain and disability, we strongly recommend considering all treatment options. Typically, people will see only one therapist, which may serve them well; however, many injuries are coupled with underlining issues due to past injuries/trauma, having a complex medical history, poor lifestyle choices or else. In many cases, combining treatment modalities and/or professional services will better capture your recovery as a whole person and allow for a quicker and more sustainable recovery.

As an example, you may present with neck pain and consider working with a Physiotherapist or a Chiropractor, however, the neck pain may be stemming from your posture at work or the stress you are under on a day to day basis. In this case, it is beneficial to have an ergonomic assessment of the work station completed to minimize poor neck postures as well as consult with the counselor or yoga therapist to find ways to reduce or cope better with stress. All of which will reduce pain symptoms and have a positive impact on your recovery.

Correcting and treating the injury through a whole person approach will help to speed the recovery process and minimize the chances of reoccurrence.
